IPTV Troubleshooting — Fix Buffering, Errors and Login Problems
If something is wrong right now, start with the diagnostic below: pick what is actually happening on screen and you will get the fixes for that symptom in order of likelihood. Cheapest and most common first, because that is nearly always the answer.
What is actually happening?
Pick the symptom that matches what you are seeing. The fixes underneath are ordered by how often they turn out to be the cause, so work down rather than jumping around.
It buffers, stutters or freezes mid-programme
The most reported problem and the one least often caused by the server. Work down this list in order — the first three fix the majority of cases and none of them cost anything.
Nothing plays — black screen or an instant error
Channels are listed but nothing starts. This is usually a codec or decoding problem rather than a connection one, which is why it fails instantly rather than stuttering.
Login rejected or subscription not recognised
Frustrating but almost always trivial. In our experience the overwhelming majority of these are a typing problem rather than an account problem.
The programme guide is empty, blank or an hour out
Channels work but the guide does not. Four causes cover essentially all of these, and two of them are simply a matter of waiting or a setting on the device.
Most channels are fine, but some will not play
This pattern is genuinely useful, because it rules out your connection and your device almost entirely. If the majority work, the setup is right.
IPTV buffering fix — why it happens
Worth understanding rather than just following steps, because once you know where buffering comes from you can usually tell within a minute whose problem it is.
Where buffering actually comes from
Buffering means your player ran out of downloaded video before the next chunk arrived. There are only four places that can go wrong, and they are not equally likely.
The two-minute test that tells you whose problem it is
Rather than guessing, run this. It isolates the cause faster than any amount of settings-fiddling.
Playback errors and codec problems
Two error types worth understanding separately, because the fixes are completely different even though both look like "it will not play".
Codec and decoding errors
These fail instantly rather than stuttering — a black screen, a green screen, or a message about an unsupported format. The stream is arriving; the device cannot turn it into a picture.
Fix decoding first: set it to hardware or auto in playback settings. Then update the player. If a very cheap Android box is involved, the chipset may simply not decode HEVC regardless of settings, and no amount of configuration will change that.
Connection and timeout errors
These take a few seconds before failing, and often mention a timeout or a network problem. The device tried to reach the stream and did not get an answer in time.
Restart the router at the wall, confirm the device is on 5 GHz, and check whether another screen is already using your stream allowance. If it persists across every channel, message us and we will check your line and reassign the server if needed.
ISP throttling and peak-time slowdowns
If everything is perfect on a Tuesday morning and struggles at eight on a Saturday, the pattern itself is the diagnosis. Here is how to tell congestion from throttling, and what can actually be done about each.
- Test at two different times before concluding anything. One bad evening is not a pattern.
- Check whether other streaming services suffer too. If they do, it is your connection rather than us.
- Talk to your provider with evidence. Two speed tests at different times is a far stronger complaint than "it is slow".
- Ask us to reassign your server. A different route sometimes sidesteps a congested path entirely.
When to contact support
Do not spend an hour fighting it. If you are in any of these three situations, message us — that is what support is for and it is included on every plan.
Troubleshooting questions
The things people ask while something is going wrong. If you are stuck right now, message us rather than reading on.
Two things happen at once at kick-off: demand on the feed peaks, and your local broadband segment fills up as the whole neighbourhood streams. Set the buffer to 4–8 seconds, get onto 5 GHz or a cable, and use the backup feed if one is available. If it still struggles after that, message us during the match and we will move your line.
Usually not, and often it makes things worse. A VPN adds an extra hop and encryption overhead, which costs you speed. It can occasionally help if your provider is specifically slowing video traffic, but that is uncommon — try everything else first rather than reaching for a VPN as a fix.
Play the same channel on your phone using mobile data rather than the house Wi-Fi. If it runs cleanly there, your subscription and our servers are both working and the problem is inside your home. If it buffers on mobile data too, tell us and we will investigate from our side.
Usually, but only if we know. Individual feeds drop and get repaired constantly, and we cannot monitor every one of tens of thousands of channels ourselves. Send the exact names and we will look at them. Waiting quietly for it to fix itself is the slowest possible route.
If the fault is genuinely on our side and we cannot resolve it, yes. If it traces back to your device, your player app or your home broadband, that falls outside the refund policy — but support will still help you fix it, and usually can. The free trial exists precisely so you can confirm the service performs on your own connection before paying.
Check the player app first. Streams move to newer codecs over time and an outdated build handles them badly, which is by far the most common explanation for a setup that degrades gradually. After that, consider whether the router was replaced, the device was moved, or more people in the house started streaming at the same time.
Prevent it happening again
Most repeat problems trace back to the player, the device or the network. These three guides cover all of it.
Message us rather than fighting it alone
Support is included on every plan and on the trial. Tell us the device, the player, the channel and what you have tried, and we will usually have it sorted before the second half.
