IPTV Troubleshooting — Fix Buffering, Errors and Login Problems

If something is wrong right now, start with the diagnostic below: pick what is actually happening on screen and you will get the fixes for that symptom in order of likelihood. Cheapest and most common first, because that is nearly always the answer.

What is actually happening?

Pick the symptom that matches what you are seeing. The fixes underneath are ordered by how often they turn out to be the cause, so work down rather than jumping around.

Symptom-first diagnostic

It buffers, stutters or freezes mid-programme

The most reported problem and the one least often caused by the server. Work down this list in order — the first three fix the majority of cases and none of them cost anything.

1Set your buffer to 4–8 secondsMOST COMMONOpen playback settings in your player. Defaults are often set to one or two seconds, which turns any tiny network wobble into a visible stutter. Four to eight seconds absorbs it without putting you behind the live action.
2Move the device onto 5 GHz Wi-FiMOST COMMONCheck which network the stick or TV is actually joined to. The 2.4 GHz band reaches further but is slower and shared with every neighbour on the road. Switch to the network with "5G" in the name.
3Get the stick out from behind the TVCOMMONA metal-backed television or cabinet blocks Wi-Fi almost entirely. A three-euro HDMI extender that brings the stick to the front or side of the unit resolves more buffering than any hardware upgrade we could sell you.
4Restart the router at the wallCOMMONUnplug it, wait thirty seconds, plug it back in. A quick power cycle does not clear the same state. Do this before reporting anything — it resolves a surprising share of problems on its own.
5Update your player appCOMMONStreams move to newer codecs over time and an outdated build handles them badly. This is the usual explanation when something worked fine last season and stutters now.
6Try the backup feed for that channelSOMETIMESMost fixtures carry two to four separate feeds. If one source is struggling, the others usually are not — switch before assuming the whole service is at fault.
7Ask us to move your line to another serverLAST RESORTIf everything above is done and it still struggles at peak time, the route between you and your assigned server may be the issue. Message support and we will reassign you, usually within a couple of minutes.
Do not set the buffer to thirty seconds to "stop buffering". It hides a connection problem rather than fixing one, and you will be a full half-minute behind every goal.
The big one

IPTV buffering fix — why it happens

Worth understanding rather than just following steps, because once you know where buffering comes from you can usually tell within a minute whose problem it is.

Where buffering actually comes from

Buffering means your player ran out of downloaded video before the next chunk arrived. There are only four places that can go wrong, and they are not equally likely.

1stYour home Wi-FiThe last ten metres between router and television. Wrong band, blocked signal, or a device tucked behind metal. This is where most cases live.
2ndYour player settingsA buffer set too small, or software decoding forcing the processor to do work the chipset should handle. Both are one settings change away.
3rdYour broadband or ISPGenuine congestion at peak time, or an underpowered connection for the number of screens running. Less common in Ireland than people assume.
4thOur servers or the source feedIt does happen, and when it does we would rather you told us. But it is the least likely of the four, which is why it belongs at the bottom of the list rather than the top.

The two-minute test that tells you whose problem it is

Rather than guessing, run this. It isolates the cause faster than any amount of settings-fiddling.

1Play the same channel on your phoneUse mobile data, not the house Wi-Fi. If it plays cleanly on 4G or 5G, your subscription and our servers are both fine — the problem is inside your home.
2Now play it on the phone over your Wi-FiIf it buffers on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data, you have proven it is the home network. Move to 5 GHz or wire the TV.
3If it buffers on mobile data too, tell usThat points at the feed or your assigned server rather than your house. Message support with the channel name and we will investigate from our end.
Run this test before messaging us and support becomes far faster. Telling us "it works on 4G but not on Wi-Fi" skips ten minutes of back and forth.
Specific errors

Playback errors and codec problems

Two error types worth understanding separately, because the fixes are completely different even though both look like "it will not play".

Codec and decoding errors

These fail instantly rather than stuttering — a black screen, a green screen, or a message about an unsupported format. The stream is arriving; the device cannot turn it into a picture.

Fix decoding first: set it to hardware or auto in playback settings. Then update the player. If a very cheap Android box is involved, the chipset may simply not decode HEVC regardless of settings, and no amount of configuration will change that.

Connection and timeout errors

These take a few seconds before failing, and often mention a timeout or a network problem. The device tried to reach the stream and did not get an answer in time.

Restart the router at the wall, confirm the device is on 5 GHz, and check whether another screen is already using your stream allowance. If it persists across every channel, message us and we will check your line and reassign the server if needed.

ISP throttling and peak-time IPTV slowdowns explained for Irish broadband users
Peak time

ISP throttling and peak-time slowdowns

If everything is perfect on a Tuesday morning and struggles at eight on a Saturday, the pattern itself is the diagnosis. Here is how to tell congestion from throttling, and what can actually be done about each.

Ordinary peak-time congestion Everyone in the estate streaming at once slows the local segment. Speed tests will show it clearly — run one at 8pm and again at 11am and compare. If the difference is large, this is your answer, and it affects every streaming service you use, not only ours.
Selective slowing of video traffic Less common, and harder to prove. The signature is a general speed test that looks fine while video specifically struggles. If a browser download runs at full speed at the same moment a stream stutters, that pattern is worth investigating with your provider.
  • Test at two different times before concluding anything. One bad evening is not a pattern.
  • Check whether other streaming services suffer too. If they do, it is your connection rather than us.
  • Talk to your provider with evidence. Two speed tests at different times is a far stronger complaint than "it is slow".
  • Ask us to reassign your server. A different route sometimes sidesteps a congested path entirely.

When to contact support

Do not spend an hour fighting it. If you are in any of these three situations, message us — that is what support is for and it is included on every plan.

Straight away Your line has stopped entirely Nothing plays on any device, or your login is refused everywhere. Do not troubleshoot this — it is either an expiry, a screen-limit conflict or something at our end, and we can check all three in seconds.
After the basics You have done the first four fixes Buffer set, 5 GHz confirmed, stick moved, router restarted, and it still struggles at peak. That is the point where reassigning your server becomes worth doing, and we will do it in a couple of minutes.
Any time Named channels are down Individual feeds do drop. Send the exact channel names and we will repair them. This is genuinely the most useful message you can send us, and far better than waiting to see if it fixes itself.
Tell us the device, the player app, the channel name and what you have already tried. Those four things turn a twenty-minute conversation into a two-minute one, and we can usually fix it while the match is still on.
FAQ

Troubleshooting questions

The things people ask while something is going wrong. If you are stuck right now, message us rather than reading on.

Two things happen at once at kick-off: demand on the feed peaks, and your local broadband segment fills up as the whole neighbourhood streams. Set the buffer to 4–8 seconds, get onto 5 GHz or a cable, and use the backup feed if one is available. If it still struggles after that, message us during the match and we will move your line.

Usually not, and often it makes things worse. A VPN adds an extra hop and encryption overhead, which costs you speed. It can occasionally help if your provider is specifically slowing video traffic, but that is uncommon — try everything else first rather than reaching for a VPN as a fix.

Play the same channel on your phone using mobile data rather than the house Wi-Fi. If it runs cleanly there, your subscription and our servers are both working and the problem is inside your home. If it buffers on mobile data too, tell us and we will investigate from our side.

Usually, but only if we know. Individual feeds drop and get repaired constantly, and we cannot monitor every one of tens of thousands of channels ourselves. Send the exact names and we will look at them. Waiting quietly for it to fix itself is the slowest possible route.

If the fault is genuinely on our side and we cannot resolve it, yes. If it traces back to your device, your player app or your home broadband, that falls outside the refund policy — but support will still help you fix it, and usually can. The free trial exists precisely so you can confirm the service performs on your own connection before paying.

Check the player app first. Streams move to newer codecs over time and an outdated build handles them badly, which is by far the most common explanation for a setup that degrades gradually. After that, consider whether the router was replaced, the device was moved, or more people in the house started streaming at the same time.
